A game is unrated when:
- it is selected as unrated by the game creator.
- it is terminated (surrender, win/defeat, ...) within 3 rounds.
- not all races are available to choose from (this is only from client update v1.0.3 and after).

Otherwise, games are always rated.

Once in 1.0.3, games cannot be rated with:

-Fog of war (FoW) disabled.

-Any race disabled.

-If the host turns the 'rated' option to off.

-it is terminated (surrender, win/defeat, ...) within 3 rounds.

Please also remember, your point ranking means nothing in real life. All it is is a number that says what approximate, and relative, skill level you are compared to the people you've played. It is just a numerical value to your reputation among a group of people you will never meet, and likely never even text/chat with. Don't feel bad if your ranking is low, and the corollary, don't feel too smug if your ranking is high.

Is there any way of knowing the rating of each game? I end up with different win/loss scores from the same game

You lose/gain an amount of points based on how your score compares to your opponent's. If your opponent has a higher score than you, you lose less points. If you are the one with a higher score, however, then you lose more points. Same works for gaining points, since your opponent will always fluctuate the same amount of points as you at the end of your game.

When you say "terminated within 3 rounds", does the game still count if you surrender ON the third round?
sorry for the noob-ish question. I'm just not sure becuase this rule hasn't applied to me yet.

Does this still apply - so if I surrender within 3 rounds, no rating?

Different question: It happened that I started a random game and saw later that I go on 4 rated random games. I missed for 3 my turn and the opponent kicked me out and I lost points! Why is that? This does not sound logical if I can surrender and do not lose points, why should I lose for not being able to play (could not login for 27 hours)!

Thanks

no this is an old thread – last year the rules were changed due to abuse, once a ranked game has started you will lose points if you surrender or are kicked, even on 1st turn.

@waxoid: Drat. I was hoping the 3 turns rule would help me escape all the random games I didn't join.
