Is there any chance of making cylindrical maps (where two opposing edges are considered next to each other and can be moved between) and toroidal maps (where all four edges are considered next to the opposite edge)
I feel this could make for some very interesting maps.

Four edges? Uniwar maps are hex-based. It's an interesting concept, I'll give you that, but it's probably not worth the time it would take the devs to program.
