4200 YEARS AGO

The Titans introduce a technology designed to break the stalemate, a small ship made of antimatter. When these ships ram into Enyalios battleships they cause a massive, crippling explosion. For the next hundred years the Titans enjoy an advantage in space combat and drive the Enyalios from certain sectors of their galaxy.

4100 YEARS AGO

Enyalios engineers develop a weapon that fires large bolts of matter at high velocity and accuracy. These bolts can destroy the Titan's bombships, though they leave dangerous antimatter shrapnel all over the battlespace. Certain sectors are declared impassible by both races as the wreckage from previous combat destroys any ships who venture there.

4000 YEARS AGO

A mysterious intelligent creature known as "The Khralean" seeks to unite the predators of the planet as Sapien raiding parties become a threat. Soon organized bands of Underlings ambush the Sapien warriors.

The Sapian clan Narask invents gunpowder. The Khraleans are unprepared for the sudden increase in destructive potential and are pushed back, although they are too numerous to be completely eradicated.

3400 years ago

During a major battle in the Dholen Nebula, the Enyalios Fourth Fleet ambushes a Titan convoy and manage to destroy the AI Eclipse, although losses on both sides are near total. This major setback for both sides causes the Enyalios and the remaining Titan AIs to agree to a 50 year cease fire whilst both sides rearm.

Both the Titans and the Enyalios have fortified enormously with huge starbases and weapons platforms. Both sides recognise that any attack would be suicidal, and continue to build up their defences.

3100 YEARS AGO

The Titans use enormous teleports to literally smash their defensive line into the Enyalios fortifications. The resulting devestation results in the formation of the 'Death Belt' that separates the entire galaxy in two and is completely un-navigable for the next three thousand years. Cut off from their hated enemies, both sides begin to subjugate independent planets within their sphere of influence. The Reticulans and Scarabs quickly fall to the Titans whilst the Enyalios destroy the fledgeling Terran Empire in the Terran year 2450. Enyalios scientists note the unusual way in which the Terrans evolved almost identically to several other known species, including the Enyalios themselves - six foot tall, mammalian, bipedal, opposable thumbs and an endoskeleton. The arrogant Enyalios interpret this as evidence of their own superiority. Meanwhile the Titans develop rapid assault speeders to defeat the highly mobile Reticulans, which they do in around two months.

In order to stand up against the threat of the Sapiens' guns, the Khralean breeds the crab-like creatures from the shore regions into large, heavily armored units. These "Pinzers" are completely immune to the Sapiens' primitive guns, giving the Khalean's forces a huge advantage over the Sapien armies. Many Sapien cities and villages are destroyed before they can counter the threat.

2987 YEARS AGO

The Sapiens invent a new weapon based on the same design as simple guns. These cannons can blast large holes in Pinzer armor, though they are slow to reload and vulnerable to attack. This allows them to stabilize the threat and push back the Khraleans, though it will take time for them to rebuild from the 13 year rampage.

The Sapiens turn their guns to the sky and attempt to eradicate the aerial creatures that sometimes carry them off. In the initial assault on Garuda nests they are mildly successful, but they take heavy losses from the Garudas' viscous claws and teeth.

2734 YEARS AGO

The Garudas join forces with the Khraleans to avoid extinction. With the support of Underlings and Pinzers they are able to force the Sapiens back.

2725 YEARS AGO

The Khralean orders a series of raids on Sapien cities. The Garudas are able to swoop down on lightly armored cannons and easily destroy them, leaving Pinzers free to rampage once more. The Sapiens fall back into heavily fortified stone cities to wait it out.

Sapian scientists develop armoured wagons for their anti-Pinzer cannons, which prevent the Garudas from destroying them. The war once again swings in the Sapian's favour.

2670 YEARS AGO

Several Sapian warriors disappear in a mountain range to the north of the Sapian stronghold. Investigators find a Sapian warrior's body punched with sharp, poisonous needle-like projectiles which appeared to have come from the air.

An Enyalios Cloud Eagle frigate successfully manages to navigate the Death Belt and scouts a Titan planet. On its return it detects three dormant vessels in an asteroid belt and investigates. As it approaches the ships it discovers that they are a strange fusion of Titan technology and some form of biological material. Spectral analysis shows the ships to be over four thousand years old. A platoon of assault troopers deploy to one of the ships and are attacked with some form of bio-acid that eats through their armour and kills them. The Cloud Eagle opens fire on the ships and is heavily damaged by a large bio-acid attack. The mysterious ships leave the stricken Cloud Eagle behind and fly into the Death Belt. The damaged Enyalios ship manages to return to Enyalios command and reports the ships. The Enyalios seed the Death Belt with sensor probes but do not detect any evidence of these ships existing, other than the damage to their frigate.

2490 YEARS AGO

After centuries of breeding, the Khralean unveils his secret weapon, the Swarmers. They are capable of fighting at long range and their poisonous needles are deadly to Sapien soldiers, so they decimate the infantry-dominated armies of the era. Once again the Sapiens are forced to run and hide until they develop better technology.

2451 YEARS AGO

The Enyalios are astonished to find that something is eating a path through the Death Belt. Three ships that appear similar to those seen in the Cloud Eagle incident emerge. When nearby Enyalios forces swarm in, they find that the ship are armed with bio-acid cannons that eat through starship armor and beat a hasty retreat. Knowing the Titans hatred for biology, they postulate that this must be a different race, though they don't understand why the ships date back four millennia and have technology similar to the Titans.

2448 YEARS AGO

The Enyalios send in a much heavier force of spacecraft. Although the strange ships have powerful weapons and regenerating armor, they are heavily outnumbered. Two of them teleport away, but the third is crippled. Footage from scouting incursions into the ship reveals a race similar to the "Predecessors" mentioned in Titan records. Apparently the Titans' victory over their creators was not as complete as they had thought.

A large meteor crashes into the planet, deep within Khralean territory. Very soon afterwards Sapian trade ships start to be attacked by mysterious aquatic creatures using some sort of acidic venom. Sapian commanders suspect that their sudden appearance may be connected to the meteor. A scout team sneaks past Khralean picket lines and reports that the meteor seems to be semi-organic, semi-metallic in nature and is almost certainly the source of the new bio-acid technology employed by these strange sea creatures.

2435 years ago

A Sapian scout ship finds the corpses of a large number of Garudas and Swarmers floating in the water. Autopsies on the corpses reveals that the creatures were killed by bio-acid attack, suggesting that these so-called 'Leviathans' are not allied with the Khralean.

2430 years ago

A Titan scoutship investigates the wreckage of the Predecessor ship, which has drifted to the edge of the Death Belt. It discovers that the ship was in fact crewed by the insectoid Predecessors, which resemble two-metre scorpion-like creatures. They also discover that due to four millenia living in space the Predecessor's shells have softened, making them highly fragile.

Ok, I understand the Leviathan-Wyrm connection now, but I still don't understand why Leviathans and Infectors should share the Khralean 3-eyed face. I suppose the only explanation is chance.

Several Sapian patrols report encounters with Khralean creatures that have developed a third eye in the centre of their heads, similar to the three eyes of the Leviathan creatures. They determine that the new third eye has been inserted into the genetic code using genetic technology the Sapians cannot understand. It quickly becomes apparent that the third eye can see into the infrared, making ambush attacks on Khralean creatures near impossible.

A Sapian village is wiped out by bioacid attack, but the village is inland, away from Leviathan attack range. Soon afterwards large Wyrms, which have been little more than a nuisance to Sapians for the last thousand years, start appearing capable of using the same bioacid attack as the Leviathans. Around the same time, swarms of Garudas start to cooperate with Leviathans to take down Sapian ships. The Sapians fear that the Leviathans have allied with the Khraleans and somehow shared their bioacid technology.

2000 years ago

Several Sapian settlements are infected with a mysterious and highly contagious plague that slowly weakens the victims, leaving them highly vulnerable to Khralean attack. The plague appears to be spread by strange scorpion-like creatures which originate from the meteor in Khralean territory.

The Sapiens discover a cure to the plague, a mushroom that occasionally grows near Sapien settlements. They soon learn how to cultivate these mushrooms and extract their medicine, giving Sapien healers a tool to eradicate the plague. Some healers also go along with Sapien armies to heal troops infected with the plague or injured by other Khralean weapons.

A group of Sapian scientists discover an unknown device of alien origin capable of supplying enormous amounts of power. They create a vehicle based around this power source capable of travelling at speeds previously thought impossible to achieve. The vehicle, called the Marauder, is a key factor in many Sapian battles but the scientists are unable to reproduce the power source.

1930 YEARS AGO

The Marauder is destroyed at the battle of Shastina but a Sapian salvage team manage to recover the power source. A team of the greatest scientists available to the Sapians devote themselves to attempting to reproduce this power source. Meanwhile the Khraleans enjoy an enormous advantage in combat, forcing the Sapians to take refuge in the mountains where their large creatures cannot reach.
