This is going to sound a bit weird, but what if we could take normal pictures

And use the hex grid that maps normally use

And combine them so that the picture is under the hex grid
And than we put an icon under each grid so that you can tell which grid is what (I.e: mountain icon under the black part of the game cube) but you can still see the picture
