Wanted to ask if capturing also decapped the point, or does it remain the enemies base if they manage to kill the unit before capture was successful?

If you kill a unit while its capturing (not after!), then the base will stay nuetral

If you own a base, you get credits each turn for owning it.
Once your opponent starts to capture it, you still own it.
So on their turn they hit capture, then end turn.
On your turn you still own the base. So at the start of your turn you get the credits for the base. Then you have the chance to kill the capturing troop. If you do, the base reverts back to your control.
If you do not, your opponent gains control and credits on his next turn.
(As apercent said if the base started neutral it would stay neutral)

As Duaneski says, own your opponents
