The previous update 1.9.42 has a BROKEN offline mode on iOS that exits the app immediately.

This emergency update contains critical fixes for iOS.
It has been submitted this Sunday. We hope that it will go live anytime soon.

Update 1.9.43 also includes an explanation on how the new color system works:

Choosing a color only affects future games. It has no effect on existing games. Colors too close from each other are forbidden in the same game except for team mates. Your chosen color will be used only when possible. For example, if another player is already using it in the same game, you will receive a default color unless you have a higher priority than the other player.
- By default, players have a priority of 0.
- Purchasing "CHOOSE YOUR COLOR" gives a priority of 1.
- Purchasing "CHOOSE OPPONENT COLOR" gives a priority of 2.
The chosen color for the opponent will only be used in 2 players games.
