Subject: What does the chevron mean?

I'm in my first online battle, and I'm seeing something new:
One of my opponent's mechs has a chevron floating next to it, no matter where it moves. Also, I seem to be able to see it, even when it steps out of my normal sight range.

I'm playing as Khraleans.

What's the chevron indicate?

Or is it a rank gained through experience? At first I thought it might be parasitic infestation, but now I've got one of my own, and the unit somehow has health 11. I'm thinking the chevron represents an experience level?

That is exactly right. The chevron is something a unit can gain by killing a high value enemy. For example, a Sapien Marine a Titan Walker that cost 750. A unit can attain a maximum of 2 chevrons.

The help menu with in the game will explain everything about the chevrons.
