I had a game recently that kind of scared me. I was playing a real wanker who wouldn't surrender in Hurtgen Forest. I captured his base and killed all above-ground units. But he had one captured underling that was buried. After I killed his above-ground units and took his base, the buried unit popped up on opponent's next turn. Was he forced to do this? Is this the game's defense against keeping one buried unit and never losing?

hmmm......
When I capture all my opponent's bases, I win, regardless of how many buried units he has. It was probably just a glitch in the game...But you won anyway, right?

If he had no above-ground units and no bases, but had a buried unit, you would have won. If he resurfaced his unit, it would count as an above-ground unit and would still be in the game.

Well, that answers my question. Thanks. He must have resurfaced during the turn I was taking the base knowing that was the only way for him to survive.

Well it's really strange, because I have a different version.
On forest walk, my opponent beat the crap out of me and captured my last base. All I had left was a lone underling, buried deep within enemy trenches (about half the map). The thing is, I manage to make it cross the whole map to the starting base of my opponent, must have been 5 rounds or so. I didn't lose or anything during that time, I just kept on moving my underling

Of course I didn't win, even though I managed to capture that base, eh fun times...
