Idk, unless you want it to be a big meaty swarmer, it's going to need something to distinguish it without compromising it's range. Personally, I think the range should go.

Possibilities
A). Make it so that it has an attack but not counterattack
B). Vampirism?
C). Give it a cooldown ability or something
