It would be cool if there was an easy way no make comments on a game. Or maybe a way so you can tag the games you like that you played and you could title it and save it, then other people could look up games you played and try to learn... Idk... Or just keep them for yourself and watch them for fun.
What's New in the Latest Updates » New Race Balancing Proposal - Sept 2010 » Go to message
Let's see...

The goal is to balance titans and khraleans. More specificly a strat that involves using mass underlings vs a turtleing Titan. But I think you need to look at how it affects the each race match up and see if there is a way to exploit the new changes.

1) an increase in the cyberunderling's stats.

Ground light attack: increased from 7 to 8... I have no problem with that

arial attack: increased from 2 to 5? I think this could be exploited. in a team game where you and your teammate are titans and khraleans cyberunderlings would be very strong vs any air. Since you are assimilating your team mates units they are full health from the start. Along with these other buffs this strat may be a good one

aquatic attack: increased from 2 to 5... How many times do you attack a ship with a cyberunderling? If you pull that off you deserve an attack bonus.

Defence: increased from 6 to 8. They are normaly low health when you get them. And they should be strong since you did capture an enemy unit.

2) decrease buried underling attack to 5 from 6... I think this will affect khraleans vs sapians more then titans. I guess this is to keep a buried underling from 1-hitting a Titan unit? But I think it would make the marines even stronger vs khraleans. Which I'm sure most of us will agree is a slightly unbalanced match up. How about a marine nerf?

3) increase in assimilator stats.

Increase self repair from 1 to 2... Sapian and khralean units both have a self repair of 1.

Increase defence from 0 to 1... Again sapian and khralean units have a defence of 0.

Decrease UV cooldown to 10 from 11... Sapians engineer cooldown is at 15, but EMP might be more usefull then UV? (idk)... And I don't think plague has a cooldown?

What about increaseing the cost of the assimilator from 100cr to 200cr.

That's my opinion right now...

I will not argue with you there as I have no research or development knowledge. I was only making an un-educated guess as to what seemed to make sence to me.

But I still think reviewing a game of uniwar for "analisis" would not be very effective as one unit or an extra unit can be a deciding factor in a battle. I know we compare this game to chess, but as for making "game analisis'" for uniwar like people do for chess would be pure theory and could be explaned with a few screenshots of the key positions.

As you may or may not know you can take screenshots of the game and post them in the forums. And if you accompanyed those screenshots with a paragraph explaning your ideas. Then that is all that is needed. No need to save every round of the game in my opinion.

There is so much going on on a chess board and real time strategy games that you almost have to have a replay of the game to catch everything that is going on. Not so much with uniwar, in my opinion.

But whatever helps you become a better player I'm all for. Just because this dosnt effect me dosnt mean it's a bad idea, I'm just saying it dosnt healp me and the reasons why.

On a different note: it would be nice to have a section to upload your screenshots and commentary to demonstrate your ideas, strategys, and theorys. That would be better then replays in my opinion.

I'm sorry I guess we look at the game in different ways. For one I havnt played uniwar in quite a few weeks, I've been playing chess as there is quite a bit more strategy involved. (iPhone app "chess.com" if you want to play me, same screen name) but when I was playing I mostly played sapian vs sapian and khralean vs khralean, so there was only two ways to play the game.

Sapians vs sapians: was all about taking advantage of the terrain and positioning of your units. ie. Marines in trees and mountians and in control of a key position, with heli's and marauders behind ready for attack.... Once the battle starts the player with better positioning and unit composition will slowly gain the advantage over time by killing an extra unit then lost on the opponts attack.

So the previous moves are like "opening moves" in a chess game. But with different maps, so in one game (uniwar) you have a strategy for each map which is proven to be strong vs a particular race. The other (chess) is the same map and moving one piece drastically changes the dynamics of the game (each move). Whereas it would take at least 5+ rounds to change the dynamics of a game of uniwar after the first couple rounds.

I know I'm not explaining myself well.

The point is: I would much rather see other aspects of the game IMPROVED then to add a compleatly new idea that wouldn't affect my play in any way. The novilty of being able to review a good game I played a long time ago isn't a good enough reason for me to support this feature...

Chess puzzles alone prove you don't need to look at the previous moves to find the best move(s). All your previous turns can mean nothing if you have checkmate in two. If you continue to look at what have been trying to do the past 5 rounds you could miss the obvious checkmate in 3.

I may not be the best chess or uniwar player, and my memory is probably average. I'm sure youvould beat me in chess, and I'm sure I would probably win one too. The fact of the matter is looking at past moves being releviant to what you do on your next turn.

If you let past moves affect your play on your next turn, you are probably missing something. It's called tunnel vision. Your too busy trying to follow through with your plan you might not see some obvious moves.

If you cannot make an analisis of the current situation without looking at the previous moves, then I'm not sure what to tell you. As harsh as it is. Your making a big deal over a differing opinion. You think you need previous moves to help your future play. Good for you! I can look at the current situation, realize that the past moves have no bearing on the current position (because I can't change them) and look for weaknesses in my opponets position, and what I can do to exploit them. In chess and uniwar.

Your way helps you play at your best, my way makes me believe I play at my best.

I was simply stating that this feature request might not be worth the research and development to please an unknown percentage of people... That is all.

Idk about Saving every game played to the server. That seems like a waste of valueable space. Maybe an option to save it to your device at the end of the game... That way you can pick which ones you want saved and waste the space on your device instead of the server.

Looking at previous moves in the round I believe would be useless... Kinda like looking at past moves of a chess game. But I believe if you wanted this feature it would have to load up the whole replay every time you opened the game... And who knows how long to play through them (takes atleast 2-5 seconds each time I hit the replay button for 1 round to load, let alone 20+)

Replays for this game are really not that usefull in my opinion. On real time strategy games it is very usefull because there is so much going on and you have to work on the timing of your buildings and what-not. However in a turn based strategy game like this I don't think replays are needed at all due to the fact that the game is turn based, so each turn it is either move, attack, heal. I think a few screen shots every few rounds is plenty to get the just of what's going on. And a screen shot of the "battle report" every once in a while to put some numbers on the game... In my opinion.

Of corse you could actually make a "false" account (like asdf has admited to doing) and post your opinions as an "anonymous" player... But of corse this was to eliminate spam in the forums, not as a way to keep people from posting their opinions and hideing behind an anonymous account name.

I like how asdf just says "ok" while we speculate if he is "iluvkim" or not. He dosnt deny it! He just says "ok" after everything we say. Kinda like how iluvkim kept saying "zzz" after chating with him in a game for a while. Too bad I'm not comfotable playing as titans or I wouldn't have surrendered on round 3... Iluvkim's attitude is very simmilar to asdf's too.

On a side note, does anyone else think it's funny asdf doesn't want to use his real screen name to voice his opinions? Almost like he's ashamed of them.

So much for not posting as anonymous.

asdf wrote: I win about half my games. So saying that I'm sticking to an advantage is ridiculous. Also, about 1/2 of the players joining my games are rated higher than I am.

first of all you say you win half your games... There is only 3 players rated 2400-2500 that have a win % close to 50/50. And all 3 perfered sapians as their race.
Second you say half the players joining are ranked higher then you... The are only 47 players rated higher then 2400. So that seems very unlikely.

Sorry I don't mean to pick on you but there are alot of contradictions in your statements. And you not wanting us to know your real screen name makes me want to try and figgure out which one it is...

And two quotes from a different topic you wrote: "My game name is not asdf. I am rated 2400+, and I rarely skip."... And "i've played MANY games online."... Most people rated higher then 2400 have played a low amount of games with a very high win percent (around 90%).

Lol that did cross my mind one time... "iluvkim" does play ALOT of 3m games too! If I would have tried to join one of his games and got kicked because I didn't choose the race he wanted to play against, maybe I could have put 2 and 2 together... But this is only a theory... It could all be a coincidence.

After trying to join a game with "iluvkim" on montvideo him and me as khraleans. He started the game then immediately surrendered. If I had to guess I would say he did that As to not use the kick button and give himself away.

He immediately remade the game and I joined as sapians, he immediately went offline... So I would say it's kinda suspicious...

Strange how asdf dosnt want us to know what his real screen name is... I don't understand why he doesn't want us to know.

Edit: iluvkim kicked me from the game with him as khraleans and me as sapians.
Conclusion: "ilovekim" only plays khraleans vs titans. The exact opposite of what asdf said he likes. So I come to the conclusion that asdf is in fact iluvkim and said he perfered to play as titans vs khraleans to cover up his true screen name for reasons unknown. Besides who thinks finding buried underlings is "the most fun". If anything watching a Titan struggle to find YOUR buried underlings is fun.
Guides & Tips » Uniwar is hacked » Go to message
Amon is rated 1594, with 32 wins and 39 losses... That dosnt seem very suspicious to me, but that dosnt mean anything... I just wouldn't think a hacker would loose more games then they won. That could be a cover though... He started the account on the 14th so he is a fairly new player. 70 games in 12 days isn't uncommon, and neither is a win percentage like that for a new player. I'll creat a game or two with him and see if he does anything when I play him.

Yeah another point is when your in a higher ranked game, (2000+) the game is pretty equal. When there is around 150 points difference between most players, you can't just attack the player with the highest points because the others are just waiting for someone to make a misstake.

But if your ranked 2000+ and you join a rated FFA with players ranked 1700-1800, then you should expect to get attacked simply for your points.

What I think has made this such a hot topic of debate is essentially your total lack of respect for other peoples opinions and inability to even LISTEN to or awknowledge what other people are trying to say.

This isn't just a total right/wrong situation... Calling people stupid, ignoring what they have to say and directly attacking PEOPLE instead of just arguing ideas is immature and bad form.

well said. These points above are right on the money. Especially the first one!

I don't like this idea because it takes away from the strategy of planning your turn before you make a move. It would be like resetting your turn and seeing the outcome of doing something different. I like the whole one chance to move each unit thing, where if you decide to do something you can't take it back and try something else...

I like the idea of guessing the best moves, not playing your turn offline then signing in and hoping it works online as good... I like the whole "one chance so don't make a misstake" aspect of the game.

Edit: might as well put a "reset turn" button in the game.
