For the past several days there have been many reports of team only chats going to global (giving away top secret tactics in team games). The issue wasn't always but many team only chats went global. Some speculated that it happened when you were typing but someone else ended their turn. Others had other theories.

Today several of us fired up a team game to test to see if we could get a repeatable condition where the team only chats go global. Some of the results

* Just typing in team chat window was team only
* responding to a team mate in team window (using response tab) went global
* manually typing the @player then message flagged them but did not go global
* starting a team only chat (hitting enter) THEN flagging team mate (using response tab) would keep it in team only mode

We were able to regularily get team only responses to go global and to also keep them team only (by starting general team message first)
* Using auto response from team menue got a global response
* starting team only message (then flagging any number of team mates) kept it team only

This makes me think that the issue is with the respond to player feature (by clicking the name) when you FIRST start a team message. Using that feature after you've started a message kept it to the team chat.

We were not able to test out these 2 senarios:
* Starting team chat then clicking auto respond but having someone else end a turn) to see if that auto response stayed team or went gobal
* Starting team chat then clicking auto respond but have another team mate type a response before the auto response was submitted to see if it sayed team or went global

We still have the team room open and are tinkering when we have a few of us on so will post more results as we find them.

@Xavi hope this helps you track down where the issue is.

I am in the same test group and would like to add that the same is true with global chat messages, which get sent to the team chat. This happens even if the player you used the respond feature for is on the other team, but it sends it to your own team chat, so the player you sent the message to can't actually see it. The same methods dragon mentioned work in preventing this.

O.k. we've managed to duplicate a few more things and learned some other interesting things

* typing anything in team chat enters a safe team only chat mode
* using respond in team chat after safe mode gets team only chat
* using respond mode in global results in team only chat
* using respont mode to player on other team will also result in your team only chat (not sure if they get a notification or not)
Ending a turn RESETS team safety mode (next team player response will yield a global chat posting

We can now redily duplicate all of the above now.

Having merged messages on/off does not change these results
reloading game does not change these results ONLY A TURN RESET does this.

It seems safety mode is always deactivated whenever the server automatically refreshes. I don't know how often that is, but a manual local refresh does not deactivate safety mode.

Edit: should note that an automatic refresh seems to be the only thing that deactivates safety mode. Another player interrupting in between messages does not for example.

Some new info. It seems that each chat has it's own safe mode, but only one can be active at a time. So if I make a safety post in team chat, then all uses of the respond button (including those in global chat) are sent to team chat. If I then make a safety post in global chat, all uses of the respond button (including those in team chat) are sent to global chat. Basically, all posts made with the response button go to the last chat you made a normal (not response) post. When someone ends their turn, it sets the chat so that all respond posts initially go to global.

To sum up this info for anyone who happens to read this, DO NOT USE RESPOND BUTTON IN TEAM GAMES UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!

@Xavi: I hope this is enough to help you fix the bug.
